Ian was born in Capetown, South Africa. His parents were, at the time, missionaries in Nigeria, which is where he spent the first two years of his life. The family moved to Belfast, Northern Ireland where Ian attended school and in 1965 he graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

Ian was employed by the Government of Hong Kong for the next 32 years. He began as an Inspector in the Hong Kong Police and after six years moved into the civil service. In 1983 he studied at Harvard Business School in Boston. He spent the final four years of his career as the Director of Social Welfare services. In 1997 he was awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen.

Since returning to live in Northern Ireland he has served on the Boards of various Christian ministries including New Horizon and Mandate. Ian has just retired as a Board member   of Belfast Bible College. He is Chairman of the Board of the Church’s Ministry of Healing.

Ian is married to Anne and has a son, daughter, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren. Ian and Anne attend Causeway Coast Vineyard in Coleraine and lead a small group in Ballymena.
